7CPHC March 11, 2003 Minutes

Meeting was called to order at 7:15 PM by club president             Steve Guerriero.

Welcome to new members: Barbara Warner, Maureen Olsen and her daughter Maryanna a new junior member. Guests Kristin Nichols, associate trainer to Jan Larsen and her guest Dan. 

Minutes from February 2003 meeting were approved as emailed.

Bills:

The following bills were submitted and approved for payment:

CCC sponsorship for the Buster Naegle and Al Reece Memorial Awards $50.00. Class sponsorship for Heading Jr. Horse (no amount stated). Club Liability –CSHA (James Parker Company) annual quote for coverage $596.70.

Approximate total of bills $1000.00. Bills were approved as presented.

Secretaries Report:

No news to report.

Melissa Berschens reported that Theresa from Stampede Design has volunteered to be the photographer at the Watsonville show in August – September. There seemed to be some questions about the show. Region 10 sent information on a new equine facility in Monterey. It was suggested maybe looking into this facility as a new show location. She will bring more information to the next meeting.

CSHA- Region 10:

Jim Carraher reported that Region 10 would be hosting two shows this year. One in June the other in August. These shows are approved for the open program.

POR Report:

                        Please watch your emails. Steve reported that the pattern                         books should be printed next week. Volunteers will be needed to help staple and put books together. Award envelopes will also need to be stuffed. He will email more information as soon as he has a date. Nancy Fenn reported Janet Radford is looking for a few people to help set up jumps and trail course. (Tuesday & Saturday late afternoon early evening) The jumps will be sold at the completion of the show. Contact Steve or Dana if you want to volunteer to help at the show. Even if you are not showing you are encouraged to come and be part of the Show. Announcements will be made throughout the show asking for help in needed areas.

**** HELP is needed and greatly appreciated at the show. The more people working together means that the success of the show is not left up to just a few people. Any time you put in will mean a great show. If you are booking a room at the host hotel, Holiday Inn, please be sure to identify yourself as being part of the POR Show. Not only do you receive a reduced rate but also the more rooms booked the hotel will make a donation to the club. We are hoping to get some credit toward the rooms needed for the judges. ****

 Judges will be Brian Ellsworth (World Show Judge), Gary Reynolds, LeeAnn DeMars and Margo Ball.

Futurity Committee:

 Ann Curtis reported that the committee is ready to go and organized. Steve wanted to remind everyone in order to enter a futurity class entrants must be a current NSBA member, as stated in the premium. Membership forms will be available at the show office.

 There will be advertising space available in the pattern books. Anyone interested in advertising should contact Steve Guerriero ASAP, prior to March 19th.

Open Show Report:

The scheduled dates for this years open shows are June 1st and July 20th at Woodmyst. This will still be a Buckle Series but only two shows. Stampede Design would like to be the photographer.

Youth Report:

Ashley Guerriero reported that they have received the first sign~up for their project “Hoof Beats” scheduled for next week. “Hoof Beats” is a youth project in which they hold a seminar that will instruct children from the Morgan Hill Country School on horsemanship and knowledge of the Paint breed.

The youth club is still looking for donations for the silent action they will be holding at the POR Saturday and Sunday. All proceeds will go to the Sunset Children’s Shelter. These two projects will meet requirements for eligibility for “Club of the Year.”

New Business:

2003 Membership forms; sponsorship forms, letters of intent need to be turned in prior to showing. These can be found on line. Points don’t count until forms are turned in to the prospective points keeper. If competing on both CCC & Open programs be sure to turn in forms to both points’ keepers. CCC program Libby Flores & Open program Debi Kent. Sponsorship requirements must also be met for each program separately.  

            Doug Hass of Zone-2 asked for a donation of funds or hours to   support the

          Reno Zone show in September. Dana motioned that we make a  donation of

          $250.00. The motion was seconded and approved.

         Ann Curtis had another horse go through Colic surgery. She was introduced to a new facility she wanted to share with the club. Steinbeck Country Equine

Clinic. They are located in Salinas, 15881 Toro Hills Ave. Salinas, CA 93908. The Clinic is equipped with an onsite surgery suite, recovery stall, four intensive care stalls, a lab and a treatment room. They are hosting a Horseman’s seminar May 10th, 2003. After the seminar they plan on a wine and cheese open house.
