7CPHC April 8th 2003 Minutes

Meeting was called to order at 7:15pm by club president Steve Guerriero.
No new members. Minutes from March meeting were approved as emailed.

Treasures Report: No report this meeting.

Bills: No bills to report this meeting.

Secretaries Report: No new information to report

CSHA- Region 10: Jim Carraher wanted the club to know he would be attending the State Quarterly meeting. It was asked if there were any issues the club wanted to be addressed. No issues reported. Thanks were given to Amanda Jacobsen who represented CSHA Region 10 at the Rancho POR Show.

POR Report: No official report yet. This seemed to be the most successful and smoothest of the three shows held. It was estimated there were at least 35-36 more horses entered this year. That’s about 818 entries per judge. Exhibitors seemed to be pleased with this year’s show. Steve wanted to Thank Everyone who worked at the show. We pulled together as a club. More detailed information will be given at the next meeting.

There were a few complaints addressed. The numbers in novice trail were down. Some felt it was due to the fact the course designer was too close to some of the barns and was giving private instruction. A discussion addressed the club hiring a course designer and how to avoid this in the future? May felt it was unethical to give private instruction at the show.

Open Show Report: The first show is scheduled for Sunday June 1st at Woodmyst Farms in Gilroy. **The format for the show has been changed. The show will be held in two arenas. With classes being held concurrently. This means a lot more help is required for a successful show. Please contact Denise Escover for work hours, d4vintnr@garlic.com . There was some general discussion on “hours” requirements and whether or not Open show hours carry over to CCC hour requirements. Steve will look into this and address it at the next meeting.

Youth Report: Ashley Guerriero gave the report. The youth club made Easter cards to be delivered to Pacific Hills Manor. They held one of their “Hoof Beats” seminars at Alameda Country School. There was 20-25 first through third graders in attendance. In the 1½ hour program they covered horse care, ridding techniques, video and attire. The silent auction at the April show raised $500.00, which will be donated to the San Jose Children’s Center. The Easter egg hunt at the show was also a success. Roy Curtis was overwhelmingly touched by the donation the youth club made to the memory of Sharon Curtis.

Old Business: None to report.

CCC: Diane Lang reported that she and Libby Flores attended the Fresno meeting. There was discussion on the Zone show, state awards banquet and splitting Amateur classes.

No decisions were made on the Zone show just a lot of discussion. She will have more to report after their next meeting. The 2003 State awards dinner will be held at the Sacramento Embassy Suites. Horsemen of the year nominations are due by August. Sponsorships are also due by August. If more sponsorship is not received award prices may have to be shopped and awards changed. If you are interested in sponsoring an award please contact Libby. As for the class splits only pattern classes would fall under this proposal. APHA will not split the world show. Diane wanted the stress the fact that if classes were split this may cause a problem with state points. The points may not count. A club decision must be made at the next meeting on the proposal for class splits. Fresno State has a new facility.

It was decided there would be NO Labor Day Watsonville show due to the dates being too close to the Reno Zone show.

This was Sharyn Finchers last meeting with the club. She and her husband K.G. are relocating to Las Vegas to work with Morgan Horses. We all wish them well.
